Planning Commission
The Claybanks Township Planning Commission will conduct a Public Hearing on Tuesday, June 19 at 7:00 P.M. in the Claybanks Township Hall, 7577 W. Cleveland Road, New Era, MI, , to consider public comments on a proposed amendment to the Claybanks Township Zoning Ordinance.
The purpose of this amendment is to update the special land use provisions by adding SECTION 1020 Solar Energy Systems.
The following is a summary of the proposed amendment:
- A solar energy system is defined as a system producing energy that is primarily for onsite consumption.
- A solar farm is defined as a twenty (20) acre minimum site producing electrical energy primarily for distribution on the electric grid. Solar farms are allowed in the Agricultural Preservation and Rural Preservation Districts.
- Solar systems require a zoning permit and solar farms require a special use permit.

Written comments will be received by the Claybanks Township Planning Commission, 6194 W Webster Road, Montague, MI 49437, at any time before the public hearing.
